SCOUTS AND GUIDES MOVEMENT

Scouts and Guides movement was founded by the Lord Baden Powel.  The movement was launched in the island of Brownsea  in 1907.  It recorded remarkable progress.  Today it has become a global movement . About 180 countries are benefited from the meritorious  service of the Scouts movement.

Admission to the scouts movement is provided for those in the age group of 6 to 25.  Boys and girls between the age group of 6 and 10 are called cubs and bulbuls, between 10 and 17 are called Scouts & Guides, between 17-25 are called Rovers and Rangers respectively. Those who join can participate in various activities depending on their age group and taste.  The Scout, guide, Cub & Bulbul Units functioning in our Vidyalayas.  In the personality development of the children, Scouts, Guides, Cubs & Bulbul movement renders a key role.  The participants get opportunities to win various awards like Rajyapuraskar badge at state level and Rastrapathi award at National level.

1. Fundamentals OF Scouting & Guiding

(a) Definition 

The Bharat Scouts & Guides is a voluntary, non-political, educational Movement for young people, open to all with out distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance  with the purpose.  Principles and method conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.

(b) Purpose 

The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities.

( c) Principles 

The Scout/Guide Movement is based on the following principles.

Duty to God

Duty to Others

Duty to Self

 

2. The Method 

The Scout/Guide method is a system of progressive self-education through:

- A promise  and law

- Learning by doing

3. The Promise

“Oh my honour, I promise that I will do my best-

To do my duty to God* and my country

To help other people and

To obey the Scout law”/Guide Law

4. The Law

(i) A Scout is trustworthy

(ii) A Scout is loyal

(iii) A Scout is a friend to all and a brother to every other Scout.

(iv) A Scout is courteous

(v) A Scout is a friend to animals and loves nature

(vi) A Scout is disciplined and helps protect public property

(vii) A Scout is courageous

(viii) A Scout is thrifty

(ix) A Scout is pure in thought, word and deed.
